Obama approval ratings remain high ahead of 100 days in office: polls

08:34, April 24, २००९

As U।S. President Barack Obama approaches his 100th day in office, several new opinion polls have found the leader holds high approval ratings for his job performance.

A survey released here on Thursday by the Pew Research Center shows 63 percent of those surveyed say they approve of the way that Obama is handling his job while only 26 percent say they disapprove।

On key issues, the Pew poll found the president got better ratings in foreign policy (61 percent) and terrorism (57 percent) than in domestic issues such as healthcare (51 percent), taxes (50percent) and the budget deficit (50 percent)।

While 60 percent of those surveyed by Pew approve of Obama's overall job performance on economy, about half think it's still "too early to tell" if his economic policies are really working।

The president enjoys similar high ratings in a survey conducted by the Associated Press and GfK Roper Public Affairs and Media, in which his job approval rating is 64 percent।

That is also the same rating Obama got from the latest Gallup Poll's daily tracking survey।

Obama will hold a prime-time news conference on April 29 to mark his 100th day in office, the White House said on Thursday।
